Accelerate-stop and accelerate-go
Learning goals
- Define accelerate-stop and accelerate-go distance
- Build a takeoff decision before the roll
Accelerate-stop distance is the runway needed to reach a specified speed, experience an engine failure and bring the airplane to a stop. Accelerate-go distance covers reaching that point, losing an engine and continuing to a specified height. Not every light twin publishes both.
Before takeoff, compare available runway with the AFM/POH data for today's weight and conditions, and brief out loud what you will do if an engine fails before and after a defined point. A decision made on the ground is faster than one invented in the air.
