Documents, customs and official sources

Learning goals

  • List the categories of requirements to research
  • Know which official sources to check

International flights involve requirements on both sides: departing and returning to the U.S., and entering The Bahamas. Categories to research include pilot and aircraft documents, customs and arrival notifications, airports of entry, and any permits required for flying between islands.

CBP's General Aviation Processing page explains eAPIS manifests, and that certain GA aircraft arriving from areas south of the U.S. must give advance notice of arrival and land at designated airports (19 CFR §122.23–122.24) unless exempt. The Bahamas tourism pilot FAQ says your first landing must be at an Airport of Entry; it also contains dated fees and phone details, so confirm everything with CAA Bahamas. This checklist is for study and is not exhaustive.
